Murat Gassiev

Murat "Iron" Gassiev is a current Russian heavyweight WBA heavyweight champion and former unified IBF and WBA (Super) cruiserweight world champion, born and based in Vladikavkaz, North Ossetia. He turned professional in 2011 and quickly built a fearsome reputation on the back of concussive and viscious punching style.

Gassiev captured the IBF cruiserweight title in 2016 with a hard-fought win over Denis Lebedev, then became one of the standout stars of the inaugural World Boxing Super Series, where he lost an undisputed Cruiserweight title fight against Oleksandr Usyk, after defeating Krzysztof Włodarczyk and Yunier Dorticós to unify the IBF and WBA belts.

With an impressive knockout ratio, Gassiev has carried his trademark power up to the heavyweight division and, in December 2025, knocked out Kubrat Pulev in the sixth round to capture the WBA (Regular) heavyweight world title, becoming a two time world champion in two seperate weight classes.
